A Message from the Director

Veterans Day Message

This is a day when we join as one community, to thank and reflect upon our veterans, service members, and their families, celebrate and thank them for their service.

Service before self is not new, and YOUR Washington Department of Veterans Affairs takes pride, each and every day, in its mission of “Serving Those Who Served.”

This year’s Veterans Day Poster centers around our nation’s honored and storied Old Guard conducting their walk in front of the Tomb of the Unknowns and from that, we remember that their duties are just like every other service member, ever watchful, protecting and holding a dignified service.

WVH Brings Nature Indoors Through Grant

Washington Veterans Home, a LeadingAge Washington senior living partner, has found innovative ways to keep their residents connected to nature with the Eldergrow GARDEN grant project.

“The plants themselves are an absolute gorgeous addition to the already beautiful facility. The gardens will give many of our residents the horticulture connection that they once had, thus adding activities that break the separation and stigma of institutionalization and living in a ‘nursing home’,” said William McElya, Administrator of the Washington Veterans Home.
