"We are truly honored to announce that the 3,000th veteran was hired in October through the #YesVets Initiative," said Washington Department of Veterans Affairs Director, Alfie Alvarado-Ramos. "We know that hiring veterans is a great way to tap an already skilled talent pool and to retain a diverse labor force in our state."

Leaders from the Employment Security Department, chambers of commerce, Washington Department of Veterans Affairs and Washington State Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) join Washington state employers and veterans in celebrating the hiring of the 3,000th veteran through YesVets -- a statewide initiative to recognize businesses that hire veterans.

YesVets is a veteran hiring campaign created to recognize and thank employers who choose to say, "YES" to hiring veterans in Washington state. Employment Security Department Employment staff recognize Washington employers with a YesVets business decal whenever they sign up and hire a veteran.

Typically, employers receive their decals at a local chamber of commerce meeting or at their place of business. They are then featured on social media with the #YesVets hashtag and are invited to an annual YesVets Employer Recognition Event.

Businesses may receive a new decal each year they participate in the program as long as they have hired a veteran in that current year, to include receiving previous year's decals if they hired a veteran since the YesVets program began.

Since the state launched the initiative in 2016, over 700 employers have joined YesVets and hired 3,000 veterans.

??????"I commend the work of our partners in the YesVets Initiative, Employment Security Department, Chambers of Commerce and Washington State Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) for all of their hard work in growing this ever-so-important campaign that is helping to employ thousands of veterans," said Alvarado-Ramos. "Washington state continues to urge businesses to say ‘yes' to the state's veterans when filling open positions."

Employers who hire a veteran are recognized with a YesVets window decal and vehicle bumper sticker they can display at their business to demonstrate support for America's servicemembers.

"Now that we have reached 3,000, we have our goals set to 5,000 and we need YOUR help! Join this powerful campaign and hire a veteran today!"
