Our commitment

VCU is committed to providing an environment that is free of known health hazards and encourages healthy habits among students, patients, faculty, staff and visitors. Through education and advocacy, the Smoke and Tobacco-free Campus policy is designed to reduce tobacco use as well as tobacco-related fire hazards and litter in the VCU community.

Your health and
well-being

Tobacco is the single largest preventable cause of premature death. Education about tobacco-use and associated health risks can help members of the VCU community avoid a harmful habit. Eliminating second-hand smoke ensures a healthier campus.

Respect for the environment

Cigarette butts are the most littered item in the world and cities spend millions each year to clean them up. Smoke and tobacco-free campus policies promote a better environment through less waste and also significantly reducing campus fires.

Everything we do as the VCU community is based on the belief that we all want to go home at the end of our day as healthy and as safe as when we arrived at work.
