The Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) is comprised of more than 800 dedicated staff who strive to fulfill WDVA's mission of "Serving Those Who Served." WDVA operates four Medicare/Medicaid and Federal VA Certified Veterans Homes in Port Orchard, Orting, Spokane, and Walla Walla providing nursing care for honorably discharged veterans, to include, in some instances, their spouses, widows or gold star parents.

Duties

Some of what you will be doing: 
The Nursing Assistant, under the supervision of the Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, assists or supervises assigned residents with activities of daily living. The Nursing Assistant promotes resident-centered care and ensures that the veterans are treated with dignity and respect. 
 
Key Responsibilities:
Assists residents with personal care and daily living activities such as bathing, personal grooming, dressing, and eating.
 
Responsible for accurately obtaining and recording vital signs and other resident data, and collection of specimens for laboratory use.
 
Observes, documents, and reports changes in resident's condition or behavior to supervisor and keeps licensed staff informed about any changes.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 
Current and valid Washington State Nursing Assistant Certification
 
Current active status on OBRA (Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act)
 
Preferred Qualifications:
Long term care experience

Insurance Benefits

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
 
State Employees are members of the Washington Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).  New employees have the option of two employer contributed retirement programs.  For additional information, check out the Department of Retirement Systems' web site.
 
Employees also have the ability to participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP).  This is a supplemental retirement savings program (similar to an IRA) that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
 
Vacation (Annual Leave)
 
You begin accruing vacation starting your first month of employment. Since we value your loyalty, the amount of vacation you can accrue increases the longer you work with us. Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year. Vacation accrues for full-time employees per WAC 357-31-165.
